We, the women of ’ of Orissa, citizens from various walks of life – Social Activists, Intellectuals, Poets, Artists, Littérateurs, Musicians, Advocates, Academicians, Economists, Scientists ,members of Civil Society Organizations, would like to bring the following matters for your kind consideration and necessary pro active actions.
We are deeply pained and shocked at the brutal killings of innocent adivasis, dalits, women, children belonging to minority community since 23rd August night immediately followed by the inhuman killing of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of his disciples by some unidentified persons.
Limitless violence against the minorities, dalits, and adivasis by the fundamental forces as well as criminals is continuing since 23rd night as if there is no end to it. Beginning from raping nuns, lynching innocent women, disabled persons and others to burning houses, shops, schools, orphan homes, Churches is going on in an unstopped manner. As of today more than 20 persons have been killed by the fundamentalists. There is no sign of stopping this violence, though Kondhmal seems calm, sporadic violence are yet happening. It has even spread to Koraput and few parts of Ganjam( Bhanjanagar).
In this context to bring normalcy, peace and harmony in the riot affected areas we demand the following :
1.To take immediate measures to bring peace in the riot torn areas.
2.To create a safe environment so that the victims who have fled to jungles and other places can come back to their respective villages.
3.To provided sufficient protection to the victims and stop intimidation of people of minority community.
4.To order a CBI enquiry into the Death of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati and his four disciples.
5.To order a CBI enquiry into the killings, arson, loot, burning of houses etc and the violence taking place on Christian minority in Kandhamal as well as other districts.
6. To immediately undertake the necessary measures to provide minimum basic needs such as food, drinking water, medical treatment, shelter to affected persons, victims.
7. To declare compensation of Rupees Ten Lakh to the next kin of the deceased Persons during the violence.
8. To allow any concerned citizens /civil society organizations willing to visit the affected areas and provide as well as monitor relief work.
9. To take all necessary steps for not to allow any Kalas Yatra taking Swami Laxmananad Saraswati’s ashes.
We hope Honorable Chief Minister shall take actions on the above demands and ensure women of Orissa, especially the women of riot torn areas a life of peace and dignity.
With Regards,
Yours’ Sincerely,
On behalf of the women of Orissa,
